here's brian with the news edge at 11:00. voters lined up out the door around the block to cast their ballot in maryland tonight. it was their last chance to vote before everyone else on tuesday. early voting officially ended in maryland at 9:00 tonight and if the lines at several polling places were any indication, many people took advantage. fox 5's maureen umeh has the story. >> even though the polls closed at 9:00 the lines remained long with many braving the cold just to make sure their voices were heard. at the bowie library in prince george's county the line of people waiting to vote snaked down the sidewalk and around the building. it stayed that way much of the day. the wait for some was up to four hours. >> i think the earlier th better. you don't have to worry about it and you're not down to one day where if anything bad happens you don't get to vote. >> you never know what's going to happen and i feel like it's better to get it done with

early than wait. >> i want to do it early. i can sit back and relax and see what's going on. >> i won't be here tuesday and i need to vote, make sure my voice is heard. >> reporter: once inside the wait was at least another 20 to 30 minutes with lines winding around the lobby. voters who finally made it inside counted themselves among the lucky to be out of the cold. the weather proved to be one of the biggest challenges for early voters. many came as prepared as possible. >> under armour base layer, scars, ear warmers in my purse, water, snacks. we're ready. >> reporter: early voting had been scheduled to run saturday to thursday, but when superstorm sandy washed away two days of early voting, friday was added and hours extended. voters had until 9 p.m. to vote. anyone in line by that time could still vote and many say the wait, the weather, all of it is worth it just to have a say to exercise a valuable right. >> if you don't vote, that's crazy because there's a lot of people in the past who fought

and died for the right to vote. so if you want to do something about our future, get out and vote. >> the mines tuesday are expected to be long, but -- lines tuesday are expected to be long are but it's anybody's guess if they'll be as long as the ones for early voting. polls in maryland open 7 a.m. tuesday. maryland voters have a lot to decide tuesday, seven questions on the ballot, among them question 3 which changes current rules for removing an elected official if they are convicted of a crime. question 4 would guarantee instate tuition to undocumented immigrants. question 5 deals with redistricting. question 6 asks voters to decide whether to legalize gay marriage. question 7 asks whether to expand gambling in the state and allow a new casino in prince george's county. to virginia where there was no decision in a lawsuit against fairfax election officials. the county's democratic committee is suing state and local officials over what they say is an illegal attempt by

republicans to change the rules for observers at polling stations. before party observers allowed to move freely at polling stations. they weren't allowed to advice voters how to vote but were able to speak with people about their rights. this year observers may only watch. some unlikely activistses hit the road in virginia today -- activists hit the road in virginia today calling themselves nuns on the bus to speak out against paul ryan's budget plan which they say will cut money against the poor. >> folks who work full time and work minimum wage and aren't able to put a roof over their kids' heads or food on the table. >> the nuns are calling on the democrats and republicans to stop bickering and work together for the good of the american people and they want a faithful budget that protects all people, not just the wealthy. we want to hear from you tonight. tweet your thouts about the candidates, issues. voters hoping for clear

weather on election day, but a new powerful storm is forming, could make landfall sometime next week. let's get the latest from gary mcgrady now. >> first we start at home because i think our forecast tuesday is looking pretty good. the polls open early, 7 a.m. d.c., 6 a.m. virginia and 7 a.m. for maryland and then they go most of the day and into the evening there. we're looking for a chilly day, but we do think there's going to be plenty of sunshine. highs will be in the lower 50s. we'll start out early in the upper 30s for everybody. here's the case across the nation, a few showers for the pacific northwest, a few snow showers up there for minnesota down into parts of wisconsin, but doesn't look like a big deal, but as we get into later in the day tuesday we're going to have this potential nor'easter starting to come up the coast. we do expect showers, even a few thunderstorms down through the deep south and it looks like with this setup there will be a pretty good line of

potential thunderstorms that set up in northern sections of florida and work themselves down through the state through the late afternoon and by wednesday this is the storm system that will begin to decide whether it's going to come up the coast as a nor'easter or head off to sea. i'm sure that everybody would agree here that we want this one to go off to sea. if it does go up the coast, it's going to provide a lot of rain, wind and some more, if it's possible are beach erosion to northeast. the latest on superstorm sandy days after the storm slammed the northeast, the u.s. death toll rises to nearly 100. meanwhile difficult recovery efforts continue across the region. fox's david lee miller is on staten island. >> reporter: the new york city marathon is canceled. >> this year there of not unity around the player -- there was not unity around the marathon, anything but. it had become divisive and you can't have the marathon if it's divisive. >> there actually became this

animosity towards runners. >> reporter: about 40,000 runners from around the world were expected to take part in the expect. the race was supposed to start in staten island, one of the hardest hit areas by hurricane sandy. meanwhile recovery efforts continue in the northeast. as millions remain without power homeland security secretary janet napolitano said the federal government is helping to restore electricity. >> the department of defense yesterday was airlifting utility crews with their equipment here to new york, to new jersey and other places impacted by the storm and more of those airlifts we anticipate to be coming over the coming days. >> reporter: new jersey governor chris christie putting pressure on utility companies. >> i'm getting these plans for the power companies. if they do not meet these deadlines, they're going to have big problems with me. >> reporter: in atlantic city casinos reopening for the first time since sunday when the approaching storm forced them to close their doors. residents are struggling to find gas for their cars and generators as many stations

remain closed due to a lack of fuel and electricity. in staten island new york, david lee miller, fox news. local runners speak out about the decision to cancel the new york city marathon. harris rosenswag was planning to run with a blind friend who traveled from new zealand to participate in the race. harris says he's still going to new york and meet up with his friend. >> maybe we'll take a run in central park or try to enjoy no, nobody city for what it's -- new york city for what it's worth. >> this is the first time the marathon has ever been canceled. it was even held after 9/11. tonight new jersey governor chris christie ordered 12 counties to ration gas to ease long lines. drivers with odd numbered license plates can only buy fuel on odd numbered days and vice versa. many gas stations are still shut down from power outages or being out of gas. fox's rick levinthal has the storm. >> reporter: several days

after hurricane sandy drivers in the storm stricken northeast continue to struggle to fill up their gas tanks. people waiting in lines that stretch for miles at the few gas stations that have both fuel and power still. >> i've been in in lane an hour and a half waiting to -- in this lane for an hour and a half waiting to get to one of these pumps. >> reporter: homeland security secretary janet napolitano temporarily waiving a rule allowing foreign oil tankers coming from the gulf of mexico to enter northeastern ports until november 13th. in a statement secretary napolitano says, "the administration's highest priority censuring the health and safety of those impacted by hurricane -- is ensuring the health and safety of those impacted by hurricane sandy." new york governor andrew cuomo asking residents for patience. >> we understand why there was a shortage for very definable reasons. we also understand why it's going to be better and it's going to be better in the near

future. >> reporter: meanwhile some airlines taking the unusual and costly step of putting extra fuel on inbound planes to new york so their jets jets can fly out again with problems, but port officials saying there is an adequate supply at major airports. and the struggle continues for residents in new jersey. this is the open gas station open in clifton about 10 miles outside new york and residents are lining up with the hand- held gas cans and their cars all the way down route 3 westbound up and over that hill about 3 miles that direction, a wait of several hours for these folks with no end in sight. in clifton, new jersey, rick levinthal, fox news. a former new orleans website started a website called new orleans to new york. it features messages from people like calvin who says, "it's not about the material things. it's about each other." another message from alvin says, "i've been there. just keep moving on."

fairfax county police are still searching for the serial groper. they say he struck again. the latest incident occurred at springfield in the 7200 block of commerce street. a man grabbed a woman from behind at a bus stop. she screamed. he took off. police released this sketch. if you recognize him, call police. disturbing video on youtube shows a fight last week at centreville high in fairfax county. the washington examiner reports the mother of one of these girls said her daughter has been bullied at school for weeks and warned school officials before the fight broke out. wendy settle said she's glad her daughter defended herself even though she was suspended three days for fighting. the district has a new plan to deal with speeding drivers.

anymore. it's been stubborn to bring the sunshine back out. we've had little peeks here and there, but we'll get it this weekend, some tomorrow, looks like more sunday, a little out of focus capitol in the distance. the winds are blowing a little bit this evening. the clouds, while they're beginning to break up, will allow for some very cold readings overnight tonight. it's an extra hour to snooze this weekend. set your clocks back before you go to sleep saturday night. listen, in terms of the weekend forecast again we're calling for more sunshine. it will be breezy tomorrow. we will have a mixture of clouds and sun during parts of the day tomorrow. a little bit more sunshine on sunday. so temperatures there 53 degrees, mostly sunny skies. it does look like a pretty decent fall weekend. temperature has dropped a degree for national, 48 degrees, dulles 45, still chilly along the i-81 corridor, culpeper 45 and 41 degrees for fredericksburg now.

the winds are still breezy and gusty. therefore we do have a little wind chill factor in place, 43 in the city. it feels like the 30s generally in our western and northwestern neighborhoods. clouds have been holding strong, but we're beginning to see signs finally that these clouds are breaking up overhead. you can see a little bit of it here. let me zoom in. clouds are beginning to break up, montgomery county back up to frederick county. you can see a little stars out there tonight. back up north they're holding strong, but again overnight tonight it does look like these clouds will finally begin to break up just a little bit. 39 degrees overnight in town. winds will be northwest 5 to 10 miles per hour. give it another three to four hours. the winds will lose their gustiness and it will be definitely cooler in the suburbs. we're talking lower to mid-30s out there and way down to the southwest for harrisonburg and charlottesville there's a freeze warning in place down there. of course, we've already had

some freezing conditions around here. let me show you the numbers across the region tonight outside the city. 39 degrees in washington, gaithersburg right down to freezing, a little below for frederick and hagerstown, martinsburg 31 and cold down in fredericksburg with a temperature of 35 degrees, culpeper at freezing with 32. in terms of highs tomorrow again we'll warm up to the lower 50s around here, 52 degrees for us, quantico 51, but it will stay in the upper 40s back out to the west and northwest. so keep in mind with a little breeze tomorrow it's definitely going to feel on the cool side. in annapolis tomorrow they'll be 51 degrees. we start off with good amounts of sunshine, a cool sunshine out there as we start around 40 in town, 30s in the suburbs, breezy for the afternoon hours and again temperatures at lunchtime upper 40s and we'll make it up to the lower 50s. less windy, more sunshine sunday, 53 degrees, monday looking good. get out and vote tuesday,
